....like an elf on speed.....
That's how Jen Walters described Dr. Jane Maugans to me, and I'll never forget it.
Scott Wilkins and I shared Intro to Sociology with one another. I don't know if that's enough to make us "friends," but I just now included his blog under the links section: Friend Blogs. He did write a poem for me after all. It's in storage in Binghamton, otherwise I'd post the poem here now.
Jen Walters wrote me a poem, too, come to think about it. I wonder if she's blogging?

I remember that Soc class. It made me hate charts, it made me hate numbers.... for a while I toyed with the notion of altogether hating anything with "soc" in the title. That idea was abandoned when I recalled my fondness for icecream socials, though. At any rate, I think that the label for Maugans is appropriate.

I remember writing that poem but I forget how it went.

Speaking (or writing, rather) of Sociology, I took a grand Soc of Images Class with what's-his-name.... Dr. Perkins. It was team-taught with Dave Huth and was amazing. We analyzed commercials and films and magazines and what-have-you. Two books that I read for that class, and recommend, are _Amusing Ourselves To Death_ and _The Plug-In Drug_.

I think I would like those Reel to Real folks.

Well, that's enough for now.

It's good to hear (read) from you, Scott. I have to admit that I haven't thought of you much in the years following Houghton, but I was very pleased to hear of your continuing existence.
Even better than Amusing Ourselves to Death is Postman's The Disappearance of Childhood. To seem trite and glib in a comments box, it's one of those books that changed my life/worldview.
