Children of the Revolution

Agnes, December 8th, 2004

You can bump and grind.
Have a good time.
You can twist and shout.
Let it all hang out,
but you won't fool the children of the revolution.
No you won't fool the children of the revolution.

Some time ask me to sing Violent Femmes songs to you all day.

Gravatar Hey, so I'm interviewing Alex James on Thursday. What should I ask him about?

Gravatar jonathon,

i'd ask:

1. what think ye of christ?

more specifically, what's his background, what is he now, that he can rock the indie scene with lyrics lifted straight from the bible.

is he a disciple, working out his faith in song, or is he a christ-haunted covenant runaway?

Gravatar 2. why a story?

the way that he uses many of his songs as vehicles to tell stories. what are his influences. anglo ballads? mid-twentienth century country music story songs? his poetry background? something else?

Gravatar 3. what's your involvement in the local scene?

when i talked to him, it seemed like he loved his home. using local artists for album cover work, talking about local artists, etc. i would ask him questions about how much he considers himself a local artist, how important he thinks that local culture is or should be, etc.

Gravatar 4. what about yep roc?

when i talked to him, he said that he didn't like most of his fellow bands on yep roc, but he was pleased that yep roc was giving dolorean wider distribution (borders, etc.) and also releasing "violence" on vinyl.

Gravatar That's it off the top of my head, in the morning before I go to work. You can ask him if he remembers the two guys that talked to him at the crappy club they played in buffalo. he'd probably remember jared more than me. jared talked to him for a while about doing special ed, teaching kids with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. i came to the conversation late and got in a few questions about yep roc.

anyhow, if you can, sometime, buy me a copy of their first album and send it to me. i'm willing to reimburse you either in cash or cool indie rocker credit.
